Lynden Plow Match
1975 – 30 minutes
Crowds gather in Lynden, Washington
to watch local farming families compete in the annual Draft Horse Plow
Match. The history and heritage of
the draft horse is told as contestants demonstrate their skill in plowing
straight and even furrows with these huge, hard-working horses. Ornate
harnesses and wagons are seen with long-time local families.
Lynden Transport on
the Alcan Highway
1975 – 30 minutes
Historic 1942 film of the
Army Engineer’s construction of the Alcan Highway is featured in this trip with
Lynden Transport Inc. on the 1500-mile journey from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks,
with stops at Fort Nelson, Watson Lake, Contact Creek, Whitehorse, ghost town
Kluane, Beaver Creek and Tetlin Junction.
Kids in the Woods
1977 – 30 minutes
South of Lynden the western Washington Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) and a group of Boy Scouts prove that the younger generation indeed cares about the environment. Working in the North Cascades, the YCC spends the summer learning about the habitat while improving trails for the public. Meanwhile, Boy Scouts from Sedro Woolley, Burlington and Mount Vernon join with the Skagit River Guides Association win national recognitionto for cleaning debris from the banks of the river.
